About Quatsino Knowledge Keeper Leonard "Tiger" Williams

Leonard "Tiger" Williams is a member of the Quatsino First Nation, and has dedicated over 20 years to perfecting cedar bark weaving. Raised by his grandmother and great-grandmother in Alert Bay, Leonard's deep connection to nature paved the way for his artistic journey. With a background in Culturally Modified Trees and Traditional Use Studies, Leonard's artistry has evolved out of a harmonious relationship with the environment. His cedar bark weaving, informed by diverse perspectives, echoes the wisdom of many Quatsino ethnographic objects. From cedar gathering to the final piece, Leonard's work is deeply rooted in traditional values, a reverent celebration of his Quatsino heritage, and a repatriation of lost knowledge for his people.
